The Two Things Your Clients Are Starving For

April 28, 2009

The marketing Guru’s tell me people are starving for two things: Content and Contact.

We all want good content and we want it without a lot of “blah, blah, blah”. I think I have the quickest “shut-off valve” on the planet. I have no patience for a lot of self indulgent non-sense. Give me the goods, and give ‘em to me fast, cuz I’m busy! Aren’t you?

I’ll give you a little sales secret here. People hate to be sold, but they love to buy.

So how do you sell more to your clients? By offering to teach them, giving good information and just plain old human contact. Got a good tip or trick? Share it! Going to a fun trade show? Show them what’s hot!

How do you do it? Work that newsletter! They are super easy to set up. Aweber is a great service I personally use to keep in touch with my customers. They also have 24/7 support if you need  a little hand holding like I did.  Shoot, if you have questions on how to use it, you can even email me and I’ll help you out! ( In a hurry? Click here to go to Aweber)

The point is, you need to stay in front of your client. Let them know you are always there for them. In this relationship, it is your job to say in contact with them. Be there when they are ready to buy. I guarantee you, if you do this, you will be miles ahead of your competition (no to mention a lot wealthier too!).

We all want to be cared for and looked after, so don’t get lazy and neglect your clients. If you do, there will be someone there to sweep them away.

Here’s the bottom line: If you develop a systematic method for collecting client information and staying in regular contact with them, you will have more clients than you know what to do with. Heck, you just might have to raise your fees!

What Is Airbrush Makeup?

April 28, 2009

Airbrush makeup has been getting a lot of attention in the media and at industry trade shows lately. You all have heard of magazines “airbrushing” photos to make models look better. Now there products that offers that same effect in real life.  Isn’t that fun?!

Actually, it’s not really that new, but manufactures have developed air compressors specifically designed for makeup professionals and the consumer market. Can you imagine that brave soul who first tried it? Hooking up a big ‘ole air compressor, pouring a little foundation in the airbrush and blasting it all out over some unsuspecting person’s face?! Now that’s a funny visual!  Anyway, we have come a long way since then. In fact, it is now the industry standard in TV, Movies and print.

So, let’s talk about the basics of airbrush makeup and how it relates to you. The airbrush makeup compressor should go from 0 to about 18psi. With an adjustable knob, eye liner can be applied at the lowest settings and airbrush tanning can be applied to the entire body at the highest settings.

Wondering if it can really be targeted enough for eye makeup? You will be amazed at how thin and smooth the line comes out. It feels like a soft whisper of air. It’s actually a very nice, very soothing feeling that clients love.

The airbrush gun is where all the magic happens.  The makeup is placed in a cup on top of the gun, then combined with air, it is blown in tiny micro dots onto the face. All the control is between the lever and the distance between the airbrush and the face. The lever determines the amount of makeup that comes out, and the distance determines how much of the surface it will cover. For example, when the airbrushing eyeliner, the airbrush is almost touching the skin. When airbrushing foundation, the airbrush should be about 6 inches away from the face.

Maintenance of the airbrush is very simple once you understand how to take it apart, clean it and put it together. If you take apart an airbrush and put it back together once, you will know the basics to just about all other airbrushes. All that you need to do is wipe the parts down with alcohol, add a little bit of lubricant to the moving parts and reassemble. You really don’t even need to clean out more than than the cup and needle on a regular basis.

So that’s it! That is the basics of airbrush makeup! There are some really cool features & benefits to the makeup too, but we will cover that in the next post.

Happy Airbrushing!
